Addiction Rehab and Recovery in Marysville, WA

Marysville, Washington, overdose support, and treatment addiction resources

Marysville, WA Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers and Other Recovery Resources

There are many drug and alcohol rehab programs in the Marysville, Washington area. But there are also other addiction recovery resources that are available as well. Unfortunately, many people are not aware of how to get help for their substance abuse problems. It is not uncommon for people to get caught in the cycle of addiction, which puts them at risk for relapsing and overdosing. We want to make more people aware of where to turn for help.

Programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous can be very beneficial. So many people have found success by attending their weekly meetings. Also, Al-Anon and Alateen are there to lend support to hurting families with addicted loved ones at home.

Even though we are not affiliated with these organizations, we want people to know about them. People need to be made aware of all of their options when they are researching rehab and other addiction recovery resources in the Marysville area.

The Dangers of Overdosing

An overdose can cause death

Substance abuse and addiction can have a range of life-shattering impacts. It can devastate finances, destroy personal relationships, and sabotage career goals. But one of the worst downfalls of a substance abuse problem is the risk of an overdose.

In the event of an overdose always call 911 and while waiting for emergency responders keep the victim awake, do not feed them anything, do not make them throw up or take a shower. if the victim overdosed on opioids, naloxone should be administered as soon as possible

Overdoses on both drugs and alcohol can have lifelong consequences and can end up causing permanent damage. On top of that, they can also be life-threatening.

And in recent years, the number of fatal overdoses has been growing at an unprecedented pace. In 1999, nearly 17 thousand Americans lost their lives to drug overdoses. In 2017, that number jumped to well over 70 thousand. That’s a 316% increase in less than two decades.

It’s never been more important, then, to know how to spot the signs of an overdose and to know what to do to treat one effectively.

Not all overdoses look the same. And with each type of drug category, there are different symptoms to watch out for. Below are some of the most notable of the most commonly abused drugs today.

Prescription Opioids – Also known as prescription painkillers, these drugs are incredibly useful in treating chronic pain in patients. However, when they’re abused, they can be both addictive and deadly. Some signs of an overdose on prescription opioids like OxyContin or Vicodin include:

  • Small, constricted “pinpoint pupils”
  • Falling asleep or loss of consciousness
  • Slow, shallow breathing
  • Choking or gurgling sounds
  • Limp body
  • Pale, blue, or cold skin

Alcohol – Despite its legality, alcohol is actually one of the most addictive and dangerous drugs today. Here are some of the signs of an overdose to watch out for:

  • Confusion
  • Vomiting
  • Seizures
  • Slow breathing (less than eight breaths a minute)
  • Irregular breathing (a gap of more than 10 seconds between breaths)
  • Blue-tinged skin or pale skin
  • Low body temperature (hypothermia)
  • Passing out (unconsciousness) and can't be awakened

Cocaine – One of the most popular “party drugs” today, cocaine is widely abused for its stimulant properties. However, it can and does cause serious problems when taken in excess. Some signs of an overdose on this drug could include:

  • Seizures
  • Loss of awareness of surroundings
  • Loss of urine control
  • High body temperature, severe sweating
  • High blood pressure, very fast heart rate or irregular heart rhythm
  • Bluish color of the skin
  • Fast or difficulty breathing
  • Death

Benzodiazepines – This category of drug includes such well-known medications as Xanax, Ativan, and Klonopin. But while they do have legitimate medical uses, they are also quite addictive and deadly when abused. Here are just a few signs of a benzo overdose to watch out for.

  • Dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Drowsiness
  • Blurred vision
  • Unresponsiveness
  • Anxiety
  • Agitation
  • Nystagmus (repetitive, uncontrolled eye movements)
  • Hallucinations
  • Slurred speech
  • Ataxia (lack of muscle coordination)
  • Coma
  • Hypotonia (overly relaxed muscles)
  • Weakness
  • Altered mental status, impairment of thinking
  • Poor memory
  • Shallow breathing
  • Low blood pressure

HeroinThis illicit drug is just as deadly as it is addictive. The signs of a heroin overdose usually include:

AIRWAYS AND LUNGS

  • No breathing
  • Shallow breathing
  • Slow and difficult breathing

EYES, EARS, NOSE, AND THROAT

  • Dry mouth
  • Extremely small pupils, sometimes as small as the head of a pin (pinpoint pupils)
  • Discolored tongue

HEART AND BLOOD

  • Low blood pressure
  • Weak pulse

SKIN

  • Bluish-colored nails and lips

STOMACH AND INTESTINES

  • Constipation
  • Spasms of the stomach and intestines

NERVOUS SYSTEM

  • Coma
  • Delirium
  • Disorientation
  • Drowsiness
  • Uncontrolled muscle movements

Crystal Meth – Meth is well-known for the horrific effects it can have on an individual’s appearance. But this drug is also quite deadly when abused, too. Some signs of a meth overdose include:

  • Agitation
  • Chest pain
  • Coma or unresponsiveness (in extreme cases)
  • Heart attack
  • Irregular or stopped heartbeat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Very high body temperature
  • Kidney damage and possibly kidney failure
  • Paranoia
  • Seizures
  • Severe stomach pain
  • Stroke

Once you’ve identified the signs of an overdose, the next step is contacting emergency services. Only they will be able to tell you what steps the individual situation calls for and send an ambulance to your location.

As such, if you notice the symptoms of an overdose, you should call 9-1-1 immediately.

If you do have to leave the side of the victim, even for a minute, be sure to put them into what’s known as the recovery position. This position is vital for preventing a number of serious complications from occurring.

The operator on the other end of the line will also likely ask you a variety of questions to help get a handle on the situation and what to do next. These questions might include:

  • What is the age, weight, sex, and condition of the victim?
  • What substance did they use, how much did they take, and when did they last take it?
  • Has the victim had a problem with addictive substances in the past?
  • Did they have a legitimate prescription for the drug?

The operator may also tell you to begin performing CPR or administering other treatments like inducing vomiting. Be sure to follow their instructions as closely as you can.

When the EMTs arrive, they’ll be able to take over care for the victim and may even use overdose-reversing drugs like naloxone to help.

Ultimately, the key to effectively treating an overdose is providing the operators with honest and accurate information about the situation.

Local Support Groups Near Marysville, Washington

Support is a vital part of any successful recovery plan. And without it, addicts are left to depend on their willpower alone – and that rarely leads to long-term sobriety.

But luckily, there are so many different local support groups in Marysville to choose from. Below are some of the most popular and most effective. And as you’ll see, there are plenty of opportunities for support in this community. You just need to know where to find them first.

The original 12-step group, Alcoholics Anonymous was founded in 1935. And since then, it’s grown to become one of the biggest and most popular support groups the world has ever seen.

12 step meetins are a gathering of fellow recovering addicts with the goal of providing motivational and emotional support to those struggling with addiction, programs where 12 step meetings are part of are alcoholics anonymous, narcotics anonymous, al anon, nar anon and alateen, all meetings are completely anonymous and do not require any fee

AA's accessibility, anonymity, and evidence-based recovery model have been an invaluable source of support for so many recovering alcoholics all over the globe.

And in Marysville, there are quite a few AA groups to choose from happening in the area.

An offshoot of AA, Narcotics Anonymous uses a similar 12-step model to help its members overcome their substance abuse problems. But rather than focusing on a single type of addiction like alcoholism, NA opens its doors to all kinds of addicts – whether it be heroin, cocaine, meth, or even alcohol.

And while it isn’t quite as popular as Alcoholics Anonymous, NA still has plenty of groups nearby for Marysville residents to choose from.

The addicts themselves aren’t the only ones hurt by alcoholism. In fact, friends and family members of substance abusers often have a range of problems that just don’t get the kind of support needed to help them recover.

Luckily, there’s Al-Anon – a 12-step group devoted to helping those around an addict stay healthy, happy, and supported.

And in the Marysville, WA area, there are quite a few Al-Anon meetings to choose from.

While meetings aren’t as numerous as other 12-step groups, there are plenty of Alateen groups nearby.

For many, growing up in an alcoholic home can have lifelong repercussions. And often the trauma experienced at a young age can extend well into adulthood, causing serious emotional and functional problems.

Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA) groups focus specifically on these victims of alcoholism by helping these individuals face their past and work on their present. It's a 12-step group, and it has been a vital source of healing and support for many.

There are a few ACoA meetings happening in the area, though choices are a bit more limited than other groups.

Not everyone will respond to the 12-step model in the same way. For some, they may find that the focus on spirituality doesn’t mesh well with their beliefs. For others, it could just be that this approach to recovery in general isn’t a good fit with their lifestyle.

No matter what the case is, there are alternatives to the 12-step method out there. And SMART Recovery is one of the best.

This support group focuses on science-based approaches to maintaining sobriety coping with overwhelming cravings. And rather than being community-led as with 12-step groups, these meetings are guided by a certified instructor.

While face-to-face groups offer the best level of support, there are more flexible options available. Online support groups, for example, provide invaluable support and motivation for anyone with a smart device/laptop and an internet connection.

These groups take place via email, in real-time chatrooms, or even through video calls.

Have a look at the online groups below to get started.

Professional Treatment for The Best Recovery Outcomes

While support alone plays a vital role in recovery, many addicts will need a much higher level of care to kick their substance use disorder for good. That’s where professional treatment programs come in. A professional treatment program uses evidence-based practices to provide patients with the absolute best chances of overcoming their addictions.

Beyond the higher success rates, though, a professional program can also make recovery far more comfortable too.

But on top of that, a professional treatment program also connects patients with qualified medical staff. And that means they’re equipped to both prevent and treat any dangerous complications that can (and often do) arise.

In the end, partnering with a professional treatment program is both the smarter and safer way to recover.

There are two main types of professional programs available: detoxification programs and rehabilitation programs.

Types of addiction treatment include detox, inpatient treatment, residential treatment, sober living homes, partial hospitalization programs and support groups

DetoxificationThe first stage of recovery, detox is all about helping patients cope with the initial physical and psychological side effects of quitting called withdrawals. And for many, these withdrawals can be excruciating. They include:

  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Cold sweats
  • Muscle aches
  • Tremors

Many times, patients are unable to push through the discomfort that these symptoms cause. And the majority of recovering addicts end up returning to old patterns of substance abuse just for some relief.

Detox addresses the physical side of addiction and is the first step in the recovery process, detox works by removing dangerous toxins from the body, quitting alcohol and drugs can cause very uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. Once detox is complete patients can begin rehab, rehab deals with the psychological aspect of addiction, patients begin to understand and address the root cause of their addiction

But with the help of a professional detox program, patients are supported medically and motivationally so that they can find the strength to push through withdrawals. Some programs even use prescription drugs to help cut down on the severity of these symptoms.

In the end, a detox program makes it easier and more likely for patients to stay sober through this trying initial stage of recovery.

RehabilitationOnce detox is over, rehabilitation is next. This type of program focuses on the psychological side of addiction. And by using counseling, group talk sessions, and behavioral therapies, a rehab program helps recovering addicts build healthy new lifestyle habits and learn how to overcome powerful cravings.

When a patient takes outpatient rehab the patient go to the facility for a few hours a week for treatment, outpatient rehab is ideal for people transitioning out of inpatient care and those with less severe addictions. When patients are taking outpatient rehab they continue living at home with family and loved ones

There are also a couple of different types of rehabs to choose from.

  • InpatientThese programs are usually around 30 days and require patients to stay one campus grounds throughout recovery. The more controlled environment allows for a higher rate of success. But the tradeoff is less freedom and a recovery that’s more disruptive to normal daily life.
  • Outpatient – Outpatient attempts to provide more flexibility to the recovery process. Instead of treatment throughout the day, patients in this program receive treatment in the evenings several times a week. And that means they’re free to hold down a job or attend school at the same time. These programs usually last for around 3 months.
  • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) – An IOP provides a high level of care while still offering flexibility. These programs use evening treatment sessions that last longer and occur more frequently than with a typical outpatient program. They usually last around 3 months as well.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many addiction treatment centers within Marysville itself. However, it’s important to realize that many times the closest treatment program isn’t always the best.

And on top of that, there are quite a few benefits of choosing to travel for treatment that many people don’t know about. Below are some of the most notable.

  • Can help solidify your commitment to recovery
  • Provides a new environment that doesn’t have the same old triggers
  • May open up the door to a higher quality of treatment
  • Don’t have to worry about running into old acquaintances
  • May provide a range of new amenities that can make recovery far more comfortable

Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers in Marysville

Even though there are many benefits to attending 12-Step programs and peer therapy groups, some people need more. They need a higher level of support in order to be successful. That is why it is so important to consider going to alcohol and drug rehab.

Rehab offers people the opportunity to work with professionals who understand the best ways to treat addictions. It provides the individual with a lot of support, which is so important during recovery.

SAMHSA offers a treatment locator that can help anyone find the help they need for addiction recovery. They indicate that there are seven rehab programs that are located within 5 miles of Marysville. There are two located within the city itself, and they both offer outpatient services.

Our Idaho Outpatient Rehab Program

At Ashwood Recovery, we offer one of the best outpatient addiction rehabs in the area. We understand that people recover at different rates, and have their own needs during recovery. That is why we have put together a comprehensive program that has three levels of care.

Our clients are placed in one of the following:

  • Traditional Outpatient Rehab
  • Intensive Outpatient Treatment
  • Partial Hospitalization

When people choose Ashwood Recovery, they get a high level of support from our staff. They also receive personalized treatment plans that are designed to help them reach their recovery goals.

Outpatient treatment can be just as effective as inpatient care in many cases. It is definitely an option worth considering.

Those who want to attend an addiction treatment program that is closer to home may be interested in our facilities in Washington. Northpoint Seattle has two outpatient programs; one in Bellevue and one in Seattle. They offer the same types of services that we do, and the same levels of care.

Our Recommendation for Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab in Washington

Not everyone is ready for outpatient treatment, and we understand that. Most people need to begin recovering from their addictions by going through an inpatient program first. Our inpatient facility is located in Edmonds, and it is called Northpoint Washington.

At Northpoint Washington, they offer an excellent drug addiction recovery program. They also have one of the best alcoholism treatment programs in the state. For both of these options, patients remain at their facility for a period of 28 days. During that time, they participate in multiple forms of therapy. They will also go through detox, if necessary.

Paying for Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment

It is not uncommon for people to put off getting help for their addictions because of the costs involved. In fact, that is one of the reasons why people in Marysville often choose free recovery programs like AA or NA. What they do not realize is that their health insurance offers benefits to help pay for professional treatment.

When the Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010, insurance companies were required to provide addiction treatment benefits for their customers. These benefits include coverage for both detox and rehab.

Every insurance policy is different, and the coverage will vary for each individual who is seeking treatment. But at Ashwood Recovery, we have made it a priority to partner with as many health insurance providers as possible. We are also in-network with Blue Cross of Idaho, which is one of the main companies in our area.
